Tech Tips: Environ Floor Heating Sensor Placement
Learn the proper techniques when it comes to installing a floor sensor with your Environ Electric Floor Heating System.
Today, we're going to talk about sensor placement when installing Environ II Panels, if you look at the Environ II panel, you can see the raised areas here where my fingers are. That's where the actual heating wire is in between the aluminum open area here. The idea is to get the sensor head in the area midway between each heating wire. The installation manual says that you can just tape it to the top or tape it underneath in the same location. We found that there's a little bit better way to do it that operates just a little bit more efficiently and give you a good heating result. That is, you want to find the location somewhere about six inches into the mat. And then what you want to do is you want to insure that this sensor head ends up here. But what we're going to do is we're going to mark this location here. Mark it with your finger and then what we suggest you do is that you take some of the insides of the carpet pad out about the size of a quarter. Verify that that is in between one of the runs of the two runs of cable, and then you can either set the sensor head down inside the hole like this. Or what you can also do is, if you're close to the edge of the wall, you can stick your sensor in and run the cable under the pad like that. So if you want to, then you can tape the cable in place as it enters there and then take a piece of tape. To hold that into place, and that will ensure when you put the mat down, that it rests in the middle of that area, that way, once you get that, then you can pull your carpet over that area and you can be assured that you'll get a good temperature reading in that spot.
