Light-emitting diode (LED) lighting is known for being more efficient and longer lasting than conventional bulbs. In fact, an LED light can outlast an incandescent bulb by thousands of hours and consume as much as 80 percent less energy. Unlike incandescent light bulbs, LED lights donât have a filament that will burn out and they donât get especially hot, making them more efficient and durable than other light sources.
LEDs work by transferring electrons from a position of higher energy to one of lower energy in a semiconductor material. The difference in the transfer of positions results in a photon of light. This light was initially used for things like Christmas lighting and forming the numbers on electrical appliances, but itâs come so much further. Today, the technology directly rivals conventional light bulbs, providing lighting in a spectrum of colors at less expensive pricing, making it a highly competitive option in the lighting market.
And thanks to a recent mathematical breakthrough, LEDs could get even more efficient.
The Future of LED Lighting
A Minnesota mathematician named Svitlana Mayboroda recently developed a mathematical formula called the âlandscape functionâ that enables scientists and physicists to locate the phenomenon of âlocalization,â in which waves suddenly stop instead of traveling as expected. Quanta Magazine writer Kevin Hartnett explains this concept of âlocalizationâ as âstanding on one side of a room expecting a sound wave to reach your ear, but it never did.â Mathematicians and physicists have been aware of this phenomenon since the 1950s, but theyâve never been able to pinpoint when and where a wave might âlocalize.â Mayborodaâs new âlandscape functionâ finally allows them to accurately predict where waves will localize and what form they will take when they do.
So what does this have to do with LED lighting? LED lighting relies on the concept of localization. By being able to control when and where electrons localize, scientists can build better, even more efficient LEDs. That means the future of LED lighting is indeed expected to be bright.
LED Mirrors
Capitalizing on the efficiency and popularity of LED lights, WarmlyYours offers a line of mirrors with built-in LED lighting. The Marquee Series of LED mirrors is available in four different styles to suit the design of any bathroom. Each mirror features LED lighting with a hue and brightness as close to daylight as possible, making your reflection as accurate as it can be.
