The Top 3 Surprising States that Use Radiant Heating

Sunlight Surprising States that Use Radiant Heating

When you think about any type of heating system, you typically associate it with a colder climate — one that brings snow and a few below-freezing days every year. Don’t get us wrong, that’s definitely the area where heating systems are most necessary. However, you might be surprised to learn about a few southern states that regularly use radiant heating. Below, you’ll find the three most-surprising states to use radiant heating and why.

1. Arizona

Phoenix Skyline-Aerial ViewThe last place you would expect to find a heating system is in the desert. However, Arizona is a prime candidate for heated floors because of its drastic temperature fluctuations from day to night. According to the Western Regional Climate Center, the maximum and minimum temperatures can be as much as 50-60 degrees apart in Arizona during the drier periods of the year. And in the winter, nighttime temperatures can fall to freezing or slightly below freezing in the lower desert valleys, as reported in a CLIMAS article.

This makes a radiant floor heating system particularly practical because you can turn it on when and where it’s needed. For instance, a homeowner can install floor heating in their bedroom so that when those cold overnight temperatures hit in the winter time, they can heat only the room they’re using. They could also heat the floors of their master bathroom so that when they wake up, the tile won’t be a shock to their feet!

2. Florida

According to the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Broward County, people over the age of 60 make up 23 percent of Florida’s population, and that number is expected to increase to 28 percent by 2020. This age group commonly deals with joint aches and pains on a regular basis. One way to help improve this pain is by applying heat. An in-floor heating system can be added to any and all rooms in the home — even in the shower! — to help lessen the pain of arthritis and other ailments.

Plus, because swimming pools are so prominent in Florida, residents can make great use of towel warmers. Heated towels also can provide healing comfort for seniors, whether they’re getting out of the pool or the shower.

3. California

On the other hand, northern California sees much fewer hot, sunny days than southern California. According to currentresults.com, average temperatures range between 47 and 76 in northern California. This includes the upscale cities of San Francisco and Napa. Between wine tastings and consuming fresh, farm-to-table fare at trendy restaurants, residents and visitors to this area appreciate the luxury that California has to offer. Many also choose to add to that luxury by having radiant heat installed under their bathroom floors — because there’s no greater luxury than being greeted by toasty warm floors after stepping out of a high-end rainfall shower.
