Project Showcase Roof & Gutter Deicing SmartInstall Clarendon Hills, Illinois
This project showcase highlights the installation of our Ice Shield Roof and Gutter Deicing system. Using radiant heating technology, these systems are designed to help melt snow and ice from roof edges, gutters, and downspouts. Keeping these areas clear during winter can help reduce ice dams, roof leaks, and water damage. With the help of our SmartFit professional measuring service, this system was installed at a home in Clarendon Hills, Illinois.
There are two available options for the cables in this system: self-regulating and constant wattage.
Our self-regulating cables are designed to change their power output along each section of cable in response to outside temperature. The heating cable can be cut to size and are the more energy-efficient of the two options.
In contrast, the constant wattage option is DIY-friendly with its plug-in power source and fixed-length cable. As part of a kit, these cables come with clips and spacers for easy installation.
The sensor shown in this install is our Snow Melt Aerial Sensor. Its small size and weight make it easy to incorporate into the exterior of any home. It can detect falling or blowing snow at temperatures below 38°F (3.3 °C). Combined with an outdoor control, it will indicate the best times to automatically turn the system on or off. In addition to the aerial sensor, this project also uses our gutter sensor. With a separate sensor in the gutter area, the system can ensure the melted snow and ice from above continues to flow out the downspout preventing any build-up.
