How to Program Your Smartstat Thermostat
Program Automatic Settings for Optimal Warmth and Efficiency
Programming the SmartStat thermostat for your WarmlyYours heated flooring systems is easy. With this thermostat, youâll be able to program your floors to warm up when you want them to be warm â such as just before you wake up and before you get home from work, and in order to save money and electricity, you can program them to be off while youâre away. Using these programmable settings is the perfect way to customize your luxurious heated floors.
Remove the faceplate from the base unit and locate the three switches on the rear of the faceplate. For proper operation of the display and the floor warming system, all three switches should be in the âUpâ position. Refit the faceplate. Open the side panels on the thermostat and put the âOn Standbyâ switch to âOn.â Press the âDayâ button as many times as necessary to set the thermostat to the correct day. Press the âHourâ and âMinuteâ buttons to set the correct time. PM hours are displayed with PM to the left of the time. There is no such annotation for AM.
Unless you want to leave the thermostat on the same temperature 24/7, you will need to setup warming periods. You may program up to four periods per day. As the default, this thermostat is set to perform to warming periods, Monday through Friday, which is 6 AM to 8:30 AM and the second one being 5 PM to 11 PM, and only one warming period, Saturday and Sunday, 6 AM to 11 PM.
To modify the schedule, you will need to enter the programming mode. Press âProgram.â The screen will show a house with the number one inside. This is the start of the first warming period. To program the same setting for everyday of the week, press and hold âDayâ for three seconds. All seven days will then appear on the screen.
Use the âHourâ and âMinuteâ buttons to select the start time of the first warming period. The default is set at 6 AM. Press the âProgramâ button to show the second house with the number two inside. If you only require one period each day, you will skip the setting by pressing the âClearâ button. Use the âHourâ and âMinuteâ buttons to select the end time of the first warming period. The default time is set to 8:30 AM.
Press âProgramâ to show the third house with the number three inside. If you only require one warming period each day, you will skip this setting by pressing the âClearâ button. Use the âHourâ and âMinuteâ buttons to select the start time of the second warming period. The default is set at 5 PM. Press âProgramâ to show the fourth house with the number four inside. Use the âHourâ and âMinuteâ buttons to select the end time of the second heating period. The default is 11 PM. Press the âMode Returnâ button to show the clock icon, indicating the thermostat is now in automatic mode.
During the program periods, the thermostat will operate at the comfort temperature. Between the program periods, the thermostat will set the temperature back to the economy temperature. The default comfort setting is a floor temperature of 82°F. To modify this temperature, use the âUpâ and âDownâ buttons to reach the desired temperature and immediately press and hold the âComfortâ button for three seconds. After another five seconds, the current floor temperature will again be displayed.
The default economy setting is a floor temperature of 60°F. To modify this temperature, use the âUpâ and âDownâ buttons to reach the desired temperature and immediately press and hold the âEconomyâ button for three seconds. After another five seconds, the current floor temperature will again be displayed.
The commonly preferred comfort temperature is between 80°F and 85°F. If you choose an economy temperature that is much lower than the comfort temperature, the thermostat will take longer to reach the comfort temperature. An economy temperature of between 70°F and 75°F, will ensure that the thermostat will return quickly to the comfort temperature while using relatively little electricity.
Every installation is different because of the subfloor, flooring, insulation, perceived comfort level, et cetera and it is up to the end user to find their most favorable settings. The thermostat can be switched between manual and automatic modes by pressing the âMode Returnâ button. Manual mode is indicated by the hand icon and the automatic mode is the clock icon.
Time and temperature settings will only be respected in the automatic mode. In manual mode, the thermostat will hold the temperature constant at whatever level it has been set using the âUpâ or âDownâ buttons.
