Value Snow Melt Control Description

This configurable aerial snow melting controller makes automatic snow melting cost-effective in even the smallest applications. Heaters operate at temperatures below the default set point (38°F or 3.3°C) only when the sensor detects precipitation at temperatures below 38°F. Plus, the adjustable hold-on period (3 hours default) continues heater operation after snow stops to ensure complete melting. The SCV-DUAL controller includes an internal magnetic reed switch used for manual heater cycling, as well as configuring the temperature set point and the hold-on time. The controller operates from 100 to 240 VAC to work with a wide variety of applications. It also controls heater loads up to 16 amps.

Customer Questions & Answers

Value Snow Melt Control has 29 Questions and Answers.

How quickly do these systems melt the snow?

That depends on a number of variables (like the temperature outside) but generally speaking these snow melting systems are designed to melt 1" - 3" of snow per hour. Anything above 3" per hour is typically considered blizzard conditions.

Is it okay to cut the snow melting cable if it is too long for the application for which it was designed?

Never cut the heating cable. A heating cable will not work if it has been cut. If the heating cable is too long, call WarmlyYours to consult with a technician who will guide you in utilizing the additional length of cable.

How does the electric snow melting system compare to hot water tubing (hydronic) systems?

The material costs are similar. However, electric systems are easier to install, with fewer components and significantly lower maintenance costs. Electric systems will run for a shorter period of time to give the same level of performance but with much higher energy efficiency (typically 95%-98% efficient). Controls and sensors required for the two types of systems are very similar. Electric systems do not usually require slab insulation and do not create the concerns typically associated with hydronic systems. These concerns include, but are not limited to, return temperatures, flue gas venting, waterway shrinkage and property damage caused by leaking pipes or tubes.

May I cross or overlap the WarmlyYours snow melt heating cable?

When installing outdoor WarmlyYours snow melting cables for your driveway, patio, walkway, terrace, stairs, ramp, etc. - NEVER cross, overlap, or allow the heating cables to touch each other. Doing so will quickly cause a circuit failure due to excessive heat build up. Always follow the installation instructions and/or design layout plan to ensure the cable is installed with the correct spacing required for proper operation.

Does the factory splice need to be completely embedded during installation?

Yes. The manufacturer's splice that connects the heating element to the cold lead should be entirely embedded in a noncombustible material (like asphalt, concrete, or mortar) within the outdoor surface that is being heated.

Snow you don’t (see what I did there)

Jim C., West Chester, PA on 11/19/2023

Installed electric snow melting system in a new flagstone walkway (over new concrete slab). I provided a sketch, almost immediately a design along with a list of all the parts and costs were provided. Exactly what I needed. Snow melting mats were placed in the mortar bed below the flagstone. Electrical work was straightforward. I tested the system and all is working exactly as intended. So if it never snows again, it’s probably my fault.

Fantastic, knowledgeable, customer service

Jay R., Damascus, MD on 06/03/2023

Always a great experience with WarmlyYours. Efficient effective technology helps us with melting walkways and driveways as well as warming my feet in the bathroom etc.

Will have to wait and see!

Only the wire is installed in the new walk. I will not be able to give a full review till next winter.

Problem finding a breaker for this system!

Paul B., Lake Zurich, IL on 02/15/2021

Having difficulty finding the appropriate beaker to run this system. Tech support at WarmlyYours says one thing and the supply house where you need to purchase the breaker says another (not available at local Home Depot or Menards). It would be nice if there were a part number, a suggested list of preferred vendors and an up front price range before making this purchase. The prices quoted for this breaker were between $200-$700 (for one breaker)...the entire sidewalk heating system was $1,000. Still cannot locate to correct breaker! Frustrating...

Response from WarmlyYours:

Paul, We are sorry to hear that you are not able to locate the correct breaker for your installation. The GFEP breaker type for outdoor heating is dictated by the National Electric Code and should be selected based on your breaker panel type/brand. For your installation, one 15 Amp 240V GFEP Circuit is required as indicated in the installation and electrical plan. Feel free to reach out to us with the brand of your breaker panel and we will do our best to assist you and find the right parts or direct you to the right place.

Haven’t had a chance to try out yet

Steve P., Idyllwild, CA on 02/15/2021

Haven’t had a chance to try out our sidewalk heater yet. When I called your company Jennifer was extremely helpful in the wiring and setting up the system. Great job Jennifer.
